Eating Disorders Awareness Week
This week is Eating Disorders Awareness Week (EDAW) and the aim is raise awareness and break down the stigma. Eating disorder is a condition that can hide itself very well from the loved ones of those that are affected. Weight loss is not the only sign and anyone can be affected by it. Signs of having an eating disorder range from the struggle to concentrate to disappearing to the bathroom after every meal.
Research done by Beat shows that stereotypes on who has an eating disorder prevent many from seeking help, which brings this week’s aim into focus light and the fact that together, we can make a difference. Here are some of the things you can do to take action this week:
- Talking about the stigma;
- Sharing your story,
- Sharing on social media,
- Share EDAW posters and brochures in your local community.
